FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO – A 29-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a four-vehicle crash on westbound I-44 on Sunday night.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Ford F-250, 1993 Cadillac Seville, and 2004 Chevrolet Malibu were all on the right shoulder of westbound I-44 at mile marker 233.6. The Cadillac was driving onto a trailer attached to the Ford. Brian B. Swenson was on the trailer helping to guide the Cadillac driver, 34-year-old Tyler K. Kittrell.
A semi, driven by 43-year-old Vitalii Verbytskyi, traveled onto the right shoulder and struck the left side of the Malibu. Verbytskyi continued driving and struck the left rear of the Cadillac. This impact pushed the Cadillac forward causing it to strike Swenson. The semi continued on an hit the rear of the Ford.
Swenson was airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. No other injuries were reported.
All four vehicles sustained extensive damages.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
