Slip and fall and trip and fall injuries can occur when a floor or walkway is wet, sticky or slippery. In many cases, accidents occur when the spills are not timely cleaned. Injuries can also occur when carpeting is not tacked down correctly, when floorboards are lose or warped, when there are unmarked, uneven surfaces, broken or cracked sidewalks, or when there are other defects in the floor, stairs, sidewalk, or stairway.
Slip and falls can also occur when misplaced items in a store block the walking area. Problems and defects in escalator and elevator operation can also cause injury. In addition, injury can result from missing handrails along steps or stairs, or because of poor visibility due to inadequate or poor lighting. Injuries sustained from such accidents range from a twisted ankle or soft tissue injury to serious fractures and broken bones, commonly in the hip, knee, back, arm and wrist. Such injuries can often result in permanent injury or disability.
