Berkeley, MO Man Dies in Hit and Run Collision

On Thursday, July 21, a 19-year-old man from Berkeley, Missouri was walking through St. Louis when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of this vehicle is reported to have been fleeing from a traffic stop – he ran a red light, jumped a curb and struck the young adult.
Earlier that day, the driver had been stopped north of where the hit and run occurred in a traffic stop after he ran a stop sign. After he did not provide a driver's license, he took off while the police office looked up information on him in his squad car. The officer pursued him for four blocks but then desisted due to the dangerous speed at which he was driving.
The man who was struck was fatally wounded and died at the scene of the car accident. The driver has since been charged with second-degree murder, resisting arrest and leaving the scene. Upon last report, he was being held for $250,000 cash bail.
Hit and run accidents of this nature can have devastating results. Due to the natural vulnerability of the human body, being struck by a large, heavy motor vehicle can result in catastrophic injuries and, unfortunately,
wrongful death.
